This Greek black glaze vessel was most likely used as a wine mug. The form of the vessel as a whole represents is a South Italian version of the Pheidian shape. The rounded body is covered in vertical ribs - the treatment of the upper ends of these ribs distinguishes this type from the Attic examples. It has a stylish bifurcating loop handle attached from the shoulder to the wide, splayed rim and the surface is covered in a rich black slip.
